“doing the right thing”
might seem too difficult
You might start causing trouble
not realizing your own motives

When you feel alone
You might stay isolated
Trapping all you think

When you’ve messed up
You can’t put things back

your old reality is shattered.
Destruction of the past self

under the ruins,
a desire to fix things
to change

you are free now
the excess, the ugliness is gone

you’ve reached the bottom
where your creative work begins

Rearrange
the broken pieces, find new materials
add stability and mold with your hands
Using the strength of your imagination,
you will begin to rebuild

a life fully resembling you
all of your pain, your sweat, your resolve,
memories you wish you could forget
becoming something new

Riding the wave of the unexpected
into the unknown

I’ve been driving at
something
my whole life

At what?

The perfect wave
The wave that will bring
me calmly to the shore

Where I can bask in never-
ending happy sunlight

That wave and that place do not exist.

The only thing that does exist is beautiful chaos.

I have been putting off
Learning how to ride the wave
I thought
“I will just wait for that
perfect sunshine wave of
happiness”

So I tread water-
the basic swimming lesson
I learned in my
adolescent swimming lessons

But I already knew how to tread water
Everyone knows how to tread water
It’s the basic thing you need
to know to stay afloat
…but there are much more
exciting ways to keep on top of things

I remember my foot cramped after my “mean” swimming teacher
made us swim twenty laps.
I will never forget it.
Twenty laps! I had never even thought to do something like that,
and why did I do it?
Because we had to
I could have stopped, though
When my foot started cramping,
I could have given up

What else is there but the thrill of pushing yourself to the limit?
Discovering new frontiers
outside of your prescribed
comfort zone.

The purpose of life as I see it,
is progress.
And this doesn’t always mean one thing.
It can mean pushing yourself
past your self-imposed limits… or it can
mean letting go of your blind
ambition.

Progressing as a human includes
learning to admit when you’re wrong
and learning to help others
There is no easy wave upon which you will glide into paradise
If there is, I don’t know about it

Happiness means embracing the struggle
and laughing at the waves
that beat you down
until you figure out how to conquer them

There are certain things that are not acceptable… things you have to cover up in order not to stand out for having “something wrong with you.”

Some things you need to sweep under the rug, you cannot say exactly how you feel.

Put on a smiling face because that’s what the world demands of you.

If you show real emotions, you may be looked down upon.

This makes it extra hard to bear the burden alone. The pressure to be smiling and happy, when you don’t feel it.

When in fact, you are feeling so low that you have thought about suicide.

No one knows because you can’t tell them.

You have to put on a “brave face.”

…

Well, you don’t really have to do it alone.

You are not alone.

You can find a counselor who wants to understand, who wants to figure out how to help you.

Someone to listen to your troubling thoughts,

So that you can sort them out.

If you are feeling like there’s no way out, do the hardest thing and

Reach out! You may be clinging onto your rope, dangling and afraid

But you will not get out of this situation by clinging to a rope that isn’t going to lead you anywhere. It will hold you there, or it will drop you.

A counselor can help bring you back down to where it’s safe

Make you feel like it’s okay, to face the world in your own way

You don’t have to do it alone

We’re in this together

**I recited this poem at the Youth Rally at the State Capitol on April 5, 2011 & wanted to post this on the Youth Bloggers Site!

Homeless Youth Are Survivors…

They are homeless because of tragedy

and most have no family.

They live life on their own

and often feel alone.

Most wish this wasn’t the case,

but being homeless is something they must face.

So what can you as a Legislator do?

And how can a change possibly come true?

You have the power to improve and empower the lives of the homeless

to make this number become strongly less.

So what will you choose?

And can you promise me that those who are homeless will not lose?

Only you have the power to help these youth

and tell the legislators the real truth.

So what will be your choice?

Will you give these youth a VOICE?

In about a month, the Taking Action conference will take place! The theme for this year is ‘Survivor’. With that being said, everyone in life has survived something. For some it is tragedy, others sickness, and sometimes even abuse.

About two years ago, I fell victim to an abusive relationship. Although I survived, I constantly think about what other people have through, just like me. Reflecting on the past, I wrote this poem.

To You,

You’ve been used and abused,

mistreated and defeated.

And here you stand before me, bitter and sad,

maybe you’re even mad.

You feel like no one is there,

and you can’t understand why life has to be so unfair.

I was once in your place,

so down I couldn’t life up my own face.

I was once abused, mistreated,

and even defeated.

Yet here I am before you giving you a piece of advice or two:

the choice is yours to take it or leave it–

how I hope you choose to take it.

Never let someone or something get the best of you,

not even for a second or two.

Being bitter, sad and mad is not helping you-

it is the thing that is breaking you.

Know that there are people out there who do care,

and you may be unaware, so

may have come where you are

and yet have gone so far.

In life everyone tries to live it as they see fit. Some times the way that one would see that happening is by self gaining. Meaning that they live life trying to fulfill their need and their wants out of life. To me this doesnt work, for me, because we are apart of a whole therefor we have some responsibility to others.

As we live there is always going to be someone trying to live right beside up us, ahead of us, or even behind us but there is always going to be someone trying to pursue this journey to a certain point in time so that a self definition is then established. When do we know that we are at that point when do we know that we are at the destination of fulfillment. People are what drive the world and with that every individual that take part in the creation of our tomorrow has a responsiblity to the person beside then because the moment that you gift to someone else could be the moment in which definition of what we see as bad, evil, no good start to stand over the good that can come from what moment could bring into someones life.

I feel strong about the fact that we all play a part in this world and it greater than we know because some of us like to live in the now but neglect that the now is everything. My now is all that could be influence by my writing. Whether they like it or not my know is you and my yesterday is knowledge that could be brought into this moment for us to share with greater purpose.

There will be more to come…………

I laugh, I love, I hope, I try, I hurt, I need, I fear, I cry,

and I know you do these same things too

so we’re really not that different, me and you.

But if we’re really not that different,

then why is there all of the hating and the discriminating?

I mean really.

Don’t judge me if you really, fully

don’t know me.

You’ve only known me for a second or two,

but you think you got me all figured out, don’t you?

You know what I see?

I see people hurting and crying.

Some are even cutting from all of the judging.

Others drinking and driving to escape the pain that comes

along from all of the hating and the discrimating.

I see gangs fighting each other,

I mean why can’t we all just get along with one another?

Why does the color of your skin assume the type of life you are living in?

Why are we judged on our race as this is something we everyday face?

To some I may be sounding harsh, but I’m not trying to march

all over you.

I’m just telling you the damage that discrimination and judging does

so often do.

It doesn’t get you anywhere,

and hey, its not even that very fair.

Its got you thinking the wrong of him or her

and it makes people feel so very insecure.

So what can you do?

Instead of judging take the time to

get to know them with arms open wide,

instead of making them feel like they must hide.

Well hey, I’m a believer

and even a dreamer that

one day a time will come

when the evil ways of judging will no longer be around

and a source of not hurting may be found.

A time when we won’t have to cry, and

our tears will be completely wiped dry.

~Talia

Sometime we born into the struggle
From that moment there we create a bubble
Not trying to free Now we in trouble
For the person held against their will
Gasping for air through fish like gills
Breath slowly and carefully
Watch your back and always step carefully
Don’t want to step on no toes
For that might be the day, prepare for you hole
Because you just don’t know
What you don’t know
And the world just wont show
What you should know
To survive on the street
Of lies and deceit
Tear that fall from the eyes of a me
Broken wings from birth
From a family that hurt
No realizing the potential of a better way
Because they trap in the know of the only way
Join a gain pull a trigger
Stuck in the before the dream still call a nigga
Leering away from what was suppose to be
Trying to figure out a brand new me
With out a gun, and a crew
Behind the red and the blue
Beyond the me and the you
The why and the who
What when and where
Will I be able to take hold and share?
A world with my self for sometimes
We are born into the struggle
Then we have to create a bubble
Bring the first name of choice called trouble
Breaking free trying to learn and listen
Find my path embark on a mission
Not knowing where it would lead
But this is a want and not what “I need”
Cant read between the lines
Of what’s there’s and what mine
Where I can go and where I must stay
Stuck in one place, one way, one world
Back at point A
Sometimes we are Born in a struggle
Therefore we mold our own bubble
Only leading to trouble
Trying to break free but the only person holding me back

IS ME.

This poem is something that I came up with as of Sunday August 1st, 2010. I am sitting in an airport awaiting my flight and listening music to be inspired. This poem comes is what comes to my mind.

It is true that sometime when we are born in a situation, a negative one at that, we see the world as that. Especially when the world out side of the one seen to us is not as welcoming. There needs to be a connection. There needs to be someway to build a bridge from one side to the other. But that is hard to do because there will need to be security and some large payoff to show even to take step on that bridge. Where have we come from as a people and where will we be if we drop the ball on giving our future and opportunity to shine.

We are leaving out kids in uneducated school to fail, not giving them the role models they need, not giving them a safe place to go when they come from an unsafe place at home, not giving them the resource to settle there hunger for food. Yes there are people worst off but where do we start to make the change. Why must entertainment, NFL, and or NBA be more important? Because these are the things we give more interest. Sad to say we even do this we have nothing just to keep up with the GATES. I am going to do what I can to get my kids to fight because this is what they are going to have to do to make it.

Thanks to us this is what we have chosen for our future. When will it stop.

Bloggin Out

The one who has much but has little
Heart full of soul

Only to be born with a soul that is old
Into a world that is cold
Sold
To the man with less
Then the man that has best
Must take the test
To bet the rest
Fail first, fail twice,
In a world that isn’t nice
Trails, tribulation
Follow by the evil of temptation
To break free from expectation
Different is that mans name
Hold him to his own chains
Used against him in every way imaginable
But not to what he has yet to imagine
The worst has not hit the mind
But through time
This man is tired
And is waiting to be fired
From the works of life
What is the mission?
That this man’s get only commission
Twisted I say
Only to be born in May
With two faces and the future where
Where the parental unit clams to pray
Believe in the world in which isn’t in the view
Of the one looking
For who must I follow?
Now to who must I lead?
The man who has much
But has little is only a title
For ink and blood is forever
Use full to the creation of a story
Until there is no more.

At that given moment
Stop
For that can be a taken moment
Breathe no longer
Life taken
And the want vanished
Stop
It will come some day
It may not be that
But there is
And there will
Be the want
That was wanted
But will you get lost
With these words
To loss the point
Or is there a point to be made
Life, Laugh, Love
Stop
Love cant come first
Life, Live it and get the message
And who can take away your laughter
Stop
Just another moment for me to
Write
Read
Read
Done
