|California Youth Crisis Line
The California Youth Crisis Line (CYCL) operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week as the statewide emergency response system for youth (ages 12-24) and families in crisis.Professionally-trained staff and volunteer counselors respond to 20,000 calls annually with crisis intervention counseling and resource referrals to service providers in the caller’s local community. We have access to more than 5,500 free or low-cost resources for youth and families across California.
For 23 years, we have listened to millions of youth and families in crisis from all over California about many struggles. Thoughts of suicide, depression, bullying, health and identity questions, trauma, human trafficking or any teen-related struggle is discussed with a crisis counselor in confidence and without judgment. We do not provide advice. We listen with compassion.
If you or someone you know is experiencing any type of teen-related struggle or crisis, please call 1-800-843-5200. Translation services available for multiple languages. Through a collaborative agreement, overflow calls to the California Youth Crisis Line may be answered by the National Runaway Switchboard (NRS). NRS, founded in 1971, has served as the national communication system for runaway and homeless youth since 1974, the only organization to ever have that distinction. The NRS mission is to keep America’s runaway and at-risk youth safe and off the streets. For more information, call1-800-RUNAWAY or visit www.1800RUNAWAY.org.
We are proud to be funded in part through the California Emergency Management Agency Public Safety and Victim Services Programs (Cal EMA) and The California Wellness Foundation. Donations and corporate sponsorships are always accepted.
The California Youth Crisis Line program and the California Coalition for Youth are proud members of Child Helpline International and the North America Alliance of Child Helplines. In addition, California Youth Crisis Line overflow calls are routed to The Boys Town National Hotline. Every day, through programs nationwide, Boys Town reaches out to help those who are most in need. We lift them up, heal their wounds and put them on the path to a brighter future. The Boys Town National HotlineSM is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and staffed by specially trained Boys Town counselors. 1-800-448-3000, or email at YourLifeYourVoice@boystown.org.
